Iconic statue in Leicester Square restored

The statue of William Shakespeare has stood in the heart of Leicester Square since 1874, but a century’s exposure to the elements had left the statue in need of major restoration work.

PAYE Stonework and Restoration were asked to clean and repair the statue, carving new arms and legs in Italian Carrera marble. We designed a temporary structure to hold the 2.5m statue in place and enable the stonemasons to work their magic.
