Sustainability Month at MNP

Exploring the environmental impact of the built environment

Throughout September, we have held a series of presentations and discussions to help us explore some of the numerous facets of sustainability.

By having a specific month to focus on this topic, it has helped us to consider in more depth the impact our work and business has on the environment, along with the steps we can take to improve that impact.

We have been encouraging our engineers to think about embodied carbon in a more everyday way – equating the embodied carbon of typical structural elements to a car journey in a Fiesta is one way we have been trying to do this, as shown in the image above!

Topics have included project structural carbon assessments and how best to use the results; case studies from our heritage team to showcase some of the techniques implemented to breathe new life into important existing buildings, with the emphasis on reuse and ‘building less’; and the sustainability initiatives currently being implemented or explored within the company, along with how we can monitor personal goals.
